Employer-Provided COVID Testing Options

Increasingly, businesses are either being required to ensure frequent testing for non-vaccinated employees, or are choosing to put such protocols in place on their own.   As a resource, the Chamber has identified the following as potential partners or sources to support a businesses’ testing requirements.
Please note that we are all waiting to see what the pending federal OSHA regulations will deem acceptable tests or protocols.  CalOSHA’s ETS accepts those that are approved by the FDA.   As additional clarity is available, we will attempt to provide updates.
Finally, please note that the Chamber does not endorse or guarantee any of these solutions, either in terms of availability or appropriateness to an individual business’ circumstance.    This list is a compilation of referrals or recommendations shared with us by local businesses or representatives from our local medical/public health partners.
Abbott BinaxNow Rapid Antigen Test
The Abbott BinaxNow test is on the FDA’s list of approved COVID-19 testing.    We have heard from HR organizations that are currently recommending their clients stock up on these tests, especially as major pharmacies like Walmart, Amazon and Kroger have agreed to sell these at cost for 3 months under the President’s Covid-19 Action Plan.  While the employer may need to cover the cost of the test, they may save costs in terms of not paying for the employee’s time to go and wait somewhere off-site for testing.

Public Health Agencies
The County’s Public Health Department site (https://publichealthsbc.org/testing/) lists testing locations and details for sites administered by the County or public health agencies in the County.   Similarly, (https://covid19.ca.gov/get-tested/) provides information about testing curated by the State of California.  Also, businesses can establish an agreement with the state for free testing via the COLOR platform at (https://www.color.com/cdph-site-setup).
